In collaboration with the Ontario Construction Careers Alliance, Hamilton Public School Board Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program and the City of Hamilton Public Works departments, the Hand Association hosted its 8th Annual High School Construction Day.

With the growing concern of skilled labour shortage
and in an attempt to enlighten students that our industry requires an infusion of young new talent, two busloads of senior students explored a career opportunity in Heavy Construction.

Geared up in Personal Protective Equipment the students toured:

  1. Coco Paving Reconstruction
  2. Lafarge Ready Mix Plant
  3. Coco Paving Hot Mix Plant
  4. Operated Heavy Equipment Simulators

(Contest prizes donated by Nortrax Canada)

Students were provided with donated gifts and information packages outlining an overview of career possibilities in Heavy Construction.
Thanks to Labourer’s Union of North America Local 837 and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 for their many contributions including a “Pita Pit” lunch.
